Summer Concussion Management

Summer Concussion Management – How Head Injuries Can Affect Children?

With summer just around the corner, it is time to think about the differences that this sunny season brings along. One of the more unexpected issues is the fact that concussion management for children can vary in the summer months.
This is a fantastic time of year for enjoying outdoor activities and sports but this also increases the risk of head injuries being suffered. Therefore, it is important to bear in mind some key points to make it a happy and care-free summer.

Concussion Management for Summer Head Injuries and School Issues

The following points will cover some of the issues to take into account. This will ensure good concussion management and less risk of a serious head injury leading to more complications.

No School Lessons

Generally, a child will miss out on the important cognitive tasks that they get at school. What this means is that the parents need to ensure that the injured child gets given tasks such as reading and writing after their 24 to 48-hour rest period has ended.

Gradually Introduce Physical Tasks

In the same way, it is vital that we substitute the physical tasks that the child will miss by not going to school. These should be introduced gradually and carefully.

Back to School

The final point here is that we need to be very careful when the child with the head injury goes back to school. The extra strain from the demands of schoolwork means that extra vigilance and possibly extra rehabilitation work may be needed.

Let Them Enjoy Sport This Summer

As a closing thought, hopefully all kids will get to enjoy an amazing summer filled with sport and memorable outdoor activities. By understanding the details of summer concussion management, it is going to be easier to enjoy these warmer months with greater peace of mind.
